Inside the Haiti Earthquake

We were asked by our lecture to play this game known as 'Inside the Haiti Earthquake'. Well if weren't for the line problem I probably have a great time playing it. But oh well can't always get what you want right?. So I played it for an hour as a survivor. Oh the game wants you to choose either be a journalist, an aid worker or a survivor. I choose survivor because i just feel like it. No specific reason at all. So when I become a survivor the game starts by showing a picture of what happen to the Haiti after the earthquake. It a REAL picture I'm not lying or anything. It was because of the picture that I know what exactly happen there otherwise I wouldn't even know that there was an earthquake at Haiti. If I said I can imagine what Haiti would look like after the earthquake then I would say I was wrong. The things I imagine isn't close to what the picture showed me.  Well then, I would like to ask my student to play this game to because its a good game and it would help them to improve their English language. Then I would like them to write an essay about 'How They Would Help Those People In Haiti'. Playing this game would help them because when they read some thing interesting it would make them more creative and when they write they would improve their writing skills.

Assessing Student Work

Although I do not have experience marking a student work but I have to say that I have a hard time assessing this one English paper. The essay was about 'My Scary Experience' i think. This student write an essay about 120 words long. Well at first glance I can already see the essay have so many mistake. The mistakes range from grammar to sentences construction and even to spelling. I laugh so long that it hurts my stomach to even read the essay. I can that the person know what he wants to write because you can see that the story has a plot its just that he or she has a problem on how to wrote it down. I thought the essay would be wrote by a form 1 student and from the weakest class. I was right about the weakest class but the form 1 student I was very wrong. To my surprise the one who wrote the essay was a person who was just a year older than me. After I knew that, I stop laughing and start to concentrate more on assessing the essay. The essay if out of 10 I would give it 6 and if it was out of 20 i would give 10. I'm having problem to upload the picture of the essay which I took with my phone. In a nutshell, it was a nice experience to assess a person essay as it will help me in the future when I become an English teacher. Later if possible I will upload the picture.

Mini Test

Question 2

You are teaching the theme “Environment” to a form three class with intermediate level of proficiency. Describe one activity on how to integrate the following thinking skills into your lesson.

a. Analysis
b. Application

a. Analysis

Personally I would use a 'wh' mind map question on them. Of course the topic would be about environment. Using the 'wh' question the student would then do an analysis of the environment. Maybe they could analyzes about the reason for the haze or the effect of deforestation of a forest. Well something like that.
b. application

As for how to apply their thinking skill. Well I think I would have the class do an group discussion on how would they preserve the environment. They would have to use their thinking skill to find other ways possible to prevent the destruction of the environment. Although, the ways that they think the have to be consulted with the teacher to see if its a good way to preserve environment. If not then they would have to find another ways thought the will be having the teacher guidance.
